New Year's Eve NA Party Slush

This is a non-alcoholic new year's eve treat that I can remember served by mother since I was a little girl. This year, I am going to try tweaking the recipe and modifying the sugar amount to make a healthier alternative.

Ingredients:
2 3oz packages of red jello
5 1/2 cups of water
2 1/2 cups sugar or 1 1/2 cups splenda
2 1/2 cups boiling water
3/4 of a 24oz bottle of real lemon juice
1 small can of unsweetened grapefruit juice

Dissolve together red jello and 5 1/2 cups of water. Then dissolve sugar in boiling water. Mix together jello and sugar mixture and add remaining ingredients. Freeze in an ice cream bucket, stir every hour or so to prevent ice crystals. To serve, fill 1/2 a glass with slush mixture and mix with 7-up or sprite.
